The Google Pixel Watch 5

Google states it beats the Apple Watch Ultra 3 and Garmin Fenix 8 Pro on GPS accuracy, a claim that the hardcore athletes might want to take note of. It is designed for Gemini Intelligence and Google Health, with 2x greater GPS route tracking accuracy when compared with the previous model. It debuts with Health Guardian (coming soon) which continuously monitors for severe, persistent drops in blood oxygen and can call emergency services automatically if you're unresponsive, an industry-first for a wrist-worn device.

It also has one handed-gestures that you can use, tapping your thumb and index finger together action suggestions as they appear on the screen. They call this the 'double pinch'.

The strength training features that are coming soon look very cool. The device is going to help you move through your sets, reps, and rest periods. Google Health Coach will also create customised workouts and strength routines, whilst also tracking recovery using your sleep and heart rate variability. Maybe you shouldn’t go for that intense run today and you should do some yoga instead. Although, this does require a Google Health Premium subscription, (£7.99/$9.99 per month), which comes with a three-month free trial.

Sleep tracking has improved with 15% more accuracy. There is also a hint of insulin resistance trends coming soon, Google has stated it shouldn’t be used as a pre-screener or for the management of diabetes. The Google Health app will notify you for irregular heart rate notifications and high and low alerts like a lot of other smart watches out there. Several of these metrics, including blood pressure and insulin resistance trends, are explicitly framed by Google as general wellness information, not for diagnosing or treating any medical condition.

30 hours of battery life on the 41mm, 40 hours on the 45mm.
