Samsung’s Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9

The Galaxy Watch Ultra2 and Galaxy Watch9 now come with Vitals, which builds a personal baseline overnight from heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature and blood oxygen, then alerts on deviations. Apple has offered something similar since 2024, though its blood oxygen data did get tangled up in a patent dispute.

Samsung reads and displays all five signals straight on the device. The new Heart Health Score is stated to be for general wellness and fitness purposes only, not for detecting, diagnosing or treating any medical condition or sleep disorder. Ultra2 is £649 or $699, Watch9 starts at £349 or $379, available from 7 August.

Knee Surgery Augmented Reality

Knee+ NexSight is Pixee Medical's augmented reality system for total knee replacement, FDA cleared and CE marked, and built for high-volume ambulatory surgery centres and hospitals. It's a wearable device: the surgeon works through a three-step setup with no lengthy calibration, adjusting bone cuts to each patient's own clinical parameters while the system overlays real-time guidance during surgery. Pixee describes the result as robotic-level precision, achieved through augmented reality rather than a robotic arm.

Great With Beats, What About Heartbeats?

Mojawa launched Purra Flow as a Kickstarter campaign on 28 July, bone conduction headphones with an AI coach that reads your pulse mid-workout and talks you into the right heart rate zone through voice prompts, so you never need to glance at a screen to know how you're doing. Open ear so you keep situational awareness in traffic, IP68 waterproof to 2 metres so the same pair goes from the road straight into the pool, and 32GB of storage for up to 15 hours of battery. Mojawa is pitching it as one device for every sport: swimming, running and cycling all covered. You’ll get a 2 year warranty, and Mojawa expects to start shipping in September 2026. As a piece of sports audio it is a sensible proposition, although the heart rate accuracy still needs to be proven.
