For the more than 220 million people worldwide living with food allergies, every meal carries an element of uncertainty. Hidden ingredients and cross-contamination represent a genuine and recurring risk of accidental exposure. Allergen Alert is developing a portable testing device intended to bring a rapid layer of verification directly to the point of eating.
The system works by placing a small food sample into a single-use pouch. It then uses immunoassay technology to identify specific proteins associated with allergens, with results displayed on the device and via a companion app. The company positions it as a quick check for hidden ingredients, aimed at reducing the risk of accidental exposure for individuals and families.
The device is currently in development, with Allergen Alert describing it as a tool designed to deliver data-driven peace of mind for those managing food allergies.
Do you think this "mini-lab" will improve safety and confidence for those with allergies? Let us know in the comments.
