ScienceCorporation’s PRIMA system is a subretinal implant designed for advanced dry age-related macular degeneration.
The system uses a light-powered implant and infrared-enabled glasses to bypass damaged photoreceptors and directly stimulate remaining retinal cells. Clinical studies are evaluating safety and efficacy, with near visual acuity measured up to 24 months after implantation.
A CE mark application has been submitted in Europe following positive preliminary results.
For patients with geographic atrophy and central vision loss, this approach represents a novel attempt to restore functional vision rather than slow decline.
